Where I Come From: Harvest in Saskatchewan

THIS is where I come from.

It’s Saskatchewan – most notably known as The Land of Living Skies.

But there’s something more to this rectangular-shaped province I call home when not on the road.

Saskatchewan produces many things: canola, flax, rye, oats, barley, lentils, peas, wheat and AAA beef (to name just a few). But most importantly, it produces some of the hardest-working people I have ever met. Farmers here work endlessly on more than 40,000 farms on 37 million acres of land across the province.

I grew up on a grain farm and watched my parents (who also raised four kids) work tirelessly throughout the different growing seasons. They produce the best crops to not only provide for us kids, but for Canada and the world. From before sunrise to long after sunset.

I wouldn’t be who I am today without having been raised by my incredible parents on our farm. I learned about the big (and often complicated) business behind farming. I also learned the care and dedication put into growing each crop and the value of hard work.

To my parents and all the farmers and farming families out there THANK YOU for all you do!

Happy and safe harvest this season!
